Happy Teacher’s Day

India has been celebrating Teacher’s Day on 5th September, since 1962. The day commemorates the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakhrishnan, a philosopher and a teacher par excellence, and his contribution towards Indian education system. Dr Radhakhrishnan believed that “teachers should be the best minds in the country”. On this day, we gratefully remember the great educationist, apart from honoring all the teachers that have made our life much more knowledgeable and fulfilled, as serving as our beacons of light.

The birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakhrishnan came to be celebrated as Teacher’s Day when, one day, some of his students and friends requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday. In reply, Dr. Radhakrishnan said, “instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teacher’s day”. From then onwards, Dr. Radhakrishnan’s birthday is observed as Teacher’s Day all across India.

Old Clothes, New Looks, Second-Hand Fashion!

Old Clothes, New Looks

Second-Hand Fashion

This DIY project idea is inspired by the fact that old becomes new and very quickly the new becomes old – this can’t be more true in any other industry than Fashion. Who doesn’t want a new wardrobe? Who wants to see outdated clothes that bore every time you look at them? At the same time you don’t want to spend a fortune buying new clothes everyday. Luckily, there are some things you can do to make your old clothes like new.

Material Needed:

  • Few designer flower
  • Permanent fabric Adhesive
  • Designer Beads
  • Needle and thread
  • Old skirt

Tuck flowers with needle and thread

Then glue designer beads in the center of the flower.

Now your old skirt is ready with new look.

Quick tip for cleaning small spots

Have you got a white shirt with a stain on it? If neither detergent or bleach will get the stain out, you can always try this easy fix.
Materials: Stained white shirt, white paint, paint brush.

Step 1 : Spread out the shirt on a hard flat surface, and smooth out the wrinkles and creases.

Use fabric paint same as your fabric color.

Step 2 : Dip the paintbrush in the white paint and paint over the stain with the paint.

Step 3 : Voila! The spot is gone.

We can’t avoid getting marks and spots on our clothes but we can always come up with ways to get rid of them, right? So how do you get rid of minor but hard spots. I’m eager to hear your tips and tricks? Share them!

Kiss Me I’m Irish!

Kiss Me I’m Irish – DIY T-Shirt

This is a fun DIY that can be done in no time. For this DIY project I got help from the “splendid blender” pen, literally!  You can read all about the magic of Splendid Blender pen (aka ‘Woodcrafter’s Marker’) at this awesome tutorial - Villabarnes. In this tutorial you can learn how to use the wonderful technique of transferring any image on fabric, any fabric. This technique uses “Splendid Blender” pen which you can buy from you local craft store (sometimes they are a little hard to find, don’t lose heart if your local craft store hasn’t even heard of it, check other stores and one of them will know about it). The one I used is by the company called “Chartpak“.

Take a print out of your desired image/picture on a laser printer. Laser printer gives a better quality printout and works well with the instructions in this DIY. Transfer the image on to the T-Shirt using the blender pen as per the instructions explained on Villabarnes blog. Once you have the image transferred, use the fabric markers to draw and fill the image with color of your choice.
